Neskovic: Blanusa Ready to Withdraw Candidacy, Several SDS Officials Eye Race for RS President

Vice-president of the Serbian Democratic Party, Želimir Nešković, stated that recent developments within the party indicate that Branko Blanuša may be reconsidering his candidacy for the president of Republika Srpska (RS).

“It is obvious that something happened during the previous evening, and Branko Blanuša showed his willingness to give up his candidacy for the president of Republika Srpska. The information that reached me clearly indicates that several officials of the Serbian Democratic Party want to enter the race for the president of Srpska,” Nešković said.

According to Nešković, Blanuša had maintained a firm stance until yesterday that he would remain the SDS candidate for the presidency of Republika Srpska. However, following the session of the party’s Main Board held last night, that position appeared less certain.

Commenting on the session, Nešković explained that members of the Main Board, at Blanuša’s proposal, confirmed earlier party decisions regarding candidacies for the upcoming General Elections. This included the decision previously adopted by the SDS Assembly naming Blanuša as the party’s candidate for president of Republika Srpska.

Asked whether Blanuša personally confirmed his candidacy during the meeting, Nešković answered affirmatively.

“Yes. He said out loud that he is a candidate and that he will respect the decisions of the SDS, that is, that he will not give up,” Nešković stated.

The developments point to growing internal dynamics within the SDS ahead of the election campaign, with multiple party officials reportedly interested in entering the presidential race.
