Thirty families in Banovići finally got a roof over their heads. In the Oskova settlement, the construction of two residential buildings with 15 apartments each was completed, built within the CEB II Project “Closing Collective Centers and Alternative Accommodation through Public Housing Solutions”.

The value of the sub-project in Banovići amounted to approximately 3.3 million BAM, of which 3 million BAM were loan funds from the Council of Europe Development Bank, while the Municipality of Banovići provided an additional 295,000 BAM. The project was implemented by the Federal Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees in cooperation with local authorities and international partners.

The Mayor of Banovići Mehmed Hasanović emphasized the importance of this day for the local community.

“I sincerely want to thank you on behalf of the Municipality of Banovići and all the locals who will solve their housing issue. We will continue to work and take care of those who do not have a roof over their heads”, he emphasized.

Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Sevlid Hurtić emphasized that the project brings more than just construction.

“This is a significant event. The project does not just provide walls and roofs, but also provides security and a warm home,” Hurtić said.

Federal Minister for Displaced Persons and Refugees Nermin Dizdar added that the families have been assured of a dignified life.

“We are opening these two facilities for 30 families who have lived in difficult conditions for decades. I am glad that we have finally provided them with a safe and dignified home,” said Dizdar.

Through the CEB II Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the construction of 2,030 housing units in 68 subprojects is planned, which will close 104 collective and alternative accommodation locations. So far, the rehabilitation and construction of 1,229 units have been completed, of which 993 have been moved in, and activities continue in other municipalities and cities, Federalna writes.
