New Head Coach: We will be proud when we wear the coat of arms of BiH

Sergej Barbarez, the new head coach of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that he comes to this position with great desire and great pride to do good things as a team.

A press conference was held in Sarajevo where Vico Zeljković, president of the Football/Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (N/FS BiH) announced that Barbarez was appointed as the head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The executive board of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina unanimously elected Barbarez to the position of coach, and he will sign a contract for four years. Emir Spahić was appointed as the sports director of the “A” national team and youth selections of BiH, and the former sports director of the BiH national team Zvjezdan Misimović will perform the function of advisor.

The new selector Barbarez said that they will work as a team and that they will be proud when they wear the coat of arms of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“One big thing for me. I hope it will be for the national team as well. We come with great desire and great pride to do some good things. We stick to what we have as a vision. Be sure that it will be one hundred percent concrete and correct. Our the vision will be different from the previous ones because we need to change some things, to beautify them with new views. As before, we will be proud when we wear the coat of arms of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will roll up our sleeves and fight story,” said Barbarez.

Spahić briefly said that everything will be done according to plan and agreement.

“Everything happened quickly and played out, I will take my time for this to settle down. We will go according to plan, in agreement, and we will see from game to game how it will look. I hope that this year we will collect a few points and wins,” he said.

Zeljković stated that this is a very important day for football in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“There are two names of BiH football at the table. We agreed to do good things and results with the national team. I believe that this is one team that will bring a lot of good to football in BiH. It is important to point out that this year is very difficult for us. We have eight hellish matches. We all have to be aware that it is not realistic to expect any results. We need to prepare this year,” said Zeljković.

The new selector succeeded Sava Milošević, whose contract was not extended after Bosnia and Herzegovina. the selection failed to qualify for the European Championship.

Barbarez is an icon of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team and the legendary captain of Bosnia and Herzegovina. team. In the period from 1998 to 2006, he played 47 games and scored 17 goals in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s jersey.

Sergej Barbarez ended his playing career in the summer of 2008, until which time he was a member of Bayer Leverkusen. He previously wore the jerseys of HSV, Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin, Hansa Rostock and Hannover, and he grew up in Velež from Mostar.

He will make his debut as a coach on June 3, when Bosnia and Herzegovina host England in a friendly match at “St. James’ Park” in Newcastle.
