The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs to the European Union, and that the expansion of the European Union is in mutual interest.

The historical progress that Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved on the way to the European Union was recognized by the highest European institutions, granting Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate status in December 2022 and then the decision to open accession negotiations in March 2024, said the chairman Bećirović. Also, Bosnia and Herzegovina has made significant progress by aligning its foreign policy 100% with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union, added chairman Dr. Bećirović.

Speaking about further steps towards the European Union, the chairman, Bećirović, emphasized the importance of harmonizing the legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European legislation and further implementation of reforms with the aim of strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.

The newly appointed head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, Ambassador Soreca, pointed out that the European Union remains a consistent partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the European path. He assessed that the European Council’s decision to open accession negotiations is a significant turning point and an incentive to redouble efforts on the reform path. Ambassador Soreca said that he will devote his mandate to strengthening partnership relations and bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to membership in the European Union.

At the end of the meeting, the chairman of the BiH Presidency, Dr. Denis Bećirović, wished a successful diplomatic mission to the head of the European Union Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, with the belief that in the coming period, there will be even more significant strides and progress on the way to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in to the European Union.
