The first three Stadler trams started running on the Sarajevo railway from 06:50 this morning.
The Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, welcomed the first passengers at Ilidža, where the tram was officially put into traffic.
“This is a big day for everyone who loves this city. I am overjoyed to see satisfied passengers, to be part of another huge project for our Sarajevo. We deserve the best of public transport, these trams really are. They were bought with the money of all citizens, let’s keep them them and let them last for us”, said the Minister Steta.
The new Sarajevo trams are equipped with modern equipment, they are low-floor vehicles with a capacity of 180 passengers, with 79 seats. They have air conditioning, a passenger counting system, wi-fi, USB ports for mobile phones and are fully adapted for disabled people.
Video surveillance inside and outside the vehicle will enable greater passenger safety and security control in vehicles.
The chairs, which are in the tram, were chosen by the citizens of Sarajevo Canton at the Open Day of the Ministry of Transport of the KS.
“We always asked the citizens what was needed, we analyzed all possible solutions with the profession and made decisions, because my employer is all the citizens of Sarajevo Canton. Thanks to all the proposals, the tireless work of many involved parties, today we have a new railway, new lines, new trolleybuses , new trams… and we’re not stopping any further,” added the Minister Steta.
The delivery of trams takes place in accordance with the planned dynamics.
The plan is to have two more trams in traffic in April, four more in May, and the remaining six in June, July and August.
In this way, by the beginning of the next school year, all 15 trams will be in traffic.
“There will be no advertising on the new Sarajevo trams,” Šteta concluded.
The trams have undergone testing, which will be adapted to all trams during the delivery and handover of the trams so that they can be in traffic immediately after the handover. In the earlier period, tram drivers underwent training with representatives of the Stadler company in Poland and Sarajevo.
We remind you that in December of last year, a contract was signed with the Swiss company Stadler for the purchase of an additional 10 trams, the delivery of which is expected to begin at the end of next year, announced the KS Government.
