Powerful armored vehicles and a water cannon are a new part of the vehicle fleet of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Canton Sarajevo (CS), which was officially presented yesterday at the First Police Brigade Square in Stari Grad.
These are new vehicles for special purposes, the procurement of which was carried out as part of the strategic equipping and strengthening of the police in CS.
In July 2023, the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of CS concluded a contract for the procurement of three vehicles for special purposes (armored transporters), which it presented yesterday. Also, the public was presented with the special vehicle Toma, which is used in cases of disturbed public order and peace on a larger scale, and has the ability to extinguish fires and deliver drinking water.
Head of the Sector for Police Support, Chief Inspector Muhamed Hasanovic, said that the procurement of vehicles for special purposes is a big step forward for the Police Administration and the Sector for Police Support.
“We can say that we received vehicles with which we will not be ashamed anywhere and which guarantee the safety of both police officers and citizens in the city of Sarajevo and CS, and beyond, considering that this unit participates in many joint actions and operations with other police agencies,” said Hasanovic.
Fatmir Hajdarevic, police commissioner of the Police Administration of the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that in the current relations in the world, the acquisition of these vehicles was neither simple nor quick.
“These vehicles are part of a comprehensive plan to modernize, strengthen, expand the capacities, means and equipment needed for the work of a modern police force that is required to be ready to respond to various security challenges. In addition to the characteristics that these vehicles have, which will significantly improve the operational activities of our special police unit, I want to emphasize that in our decision to acquire these vehicles, the main and basic priority was the safety of police officers”, said Hajdarevic.
He added that the CS police was and will remain in the service of protecting the constitutional and legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as well as protecting the lives and property of all citizens and guests.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of the CS, Admir Katica, announced that the procedure for the procurement of two more armored vehicles is in the process of being implemented.
“Our goal is to build the best and strongest special unit in the country. I especially emphasize that the safety and lives of our police officers are our first priority. We want them to be maximally equipped and safe, and that’s why we will get the most modern protective equipment for each of them”, Katica said.
He added that through strategic strengthening and equipping, the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs is creating a police force that will be a pillar of security, protection and trust for all citizens of that city.
“That is why it is our duty to equip the police with the best equipment and give them all available tools for a successful response to all forms of crime. We must never forget how much the police meant to this city and to all our citizens during the most difficult times of aggression against BiH and Sarajevo. It is precisely for this reason that we are today in this very place, the Square of the First Brigade of the Stari Grad Police”, said Katicayesterday.
The President of the First Brigade of the Stari Grad Police Association, Alija Jasarevic, said that the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the CS shows its strength and readiness through the most modern equipment, personnel training and the most modern material and technical means.
“What the First Brigade of the Stari Grad police 32 years ago and today’s CS police have in common is precisely that courage, honesty, determination and willingness to protect the constitutional and legal order of BiH, the personal and property security of our citizens from any type of attack and of all types of criminal activities”, said Jasarevic, N1 writes.
