Nihad Uk: We are abolishing Solar Energy Concessions in the Sarajevo Canton

The Sarajevo Canton Government has already initiated the procedure for amending the Law on Concessions, which will exempt public companies and institutions from the obligation to pay concessions for solar energy, the Cantonal Government confirmed.

The current law also provides for the payment of concession fees for the use of solar energy, which, as the Government points out, is unacceptable in the context of the development of renewable sources.

In addition to the benefits for the public sector, an additional reform has been announced that would also relieve the private sector.

“In agreement with the Minister of Economy Zlatko Mijatović, we have launched an initiative to propose the abolition of the concession fee for legal entities in an urgent procedure. In this way, we want to further encourage investments in solar power plants, both for our own needs and for commercial purposes,” the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk told FENA.

As emphasized, renewable energy sources, especially solar energy, represent a strategic direction for the development of Sarajevo Canton, especially at a time when the entire region is facing serious challenges in the energy sector.

“We must not allow additional charges and administrative barriers to discourage citizens and investors. It is our obligation to create an environment that encourages energy transition, security and sustainability. In that direction, we are continuing with concrete reforms,” said Prime Minister Uk.
