8. Human Rights Film FestivalOn the third day of the 8th Pravo Ljudski Film Festival, nine films in four selections will be shown-competition extra muros, arts & docs, re:versus, and retrospective ‘We film our bruises, as if cinema were a revolution’ at Meeting Point Cinema., Sarajevo War Theatre SARTR and Art Kino Kriterion. Entrance to all screenings is free, and the public can expect discussions with several filmmakers who are guests of this year’s Festival.

In the extra muros competition selection, which presents films that push boundaries, create new trends and forms, will offer three movies today by directors that come from all over the world, and for whom this is their first or second film. These films are ‘Beyond Wriezen’ by Daniel Abma from Germany, ‘Cost of Death’ by Lois Patiño from Spain, and the Brazilian story ‘Elena’ by Petra Costa. The documentary film by Daniel Abma is a story of three young prisoners-Imo (22), Jano (17) and Marcel (25) on the day of their release from the jail Wriezen in Brandenburg (East Germany) and during the next three years. The film by Lois Patiño is about the Costa de da Morte region in Galicia (Spain), which was considered the end of the world during the Roman Empire. The dramatic name for this was given due to the many shipwrecks that occurred in the past, and it is an area composed of rocks, fog and storms. After the screening, there will be a discussion with director Lois Patiño. Both films will be shown in Kino Meeting Point, at 16:5 and then at 20:15, respectively.

In the film ‘Elena’, whose title is the same as the actress, a young Brazilian woman travels to New York to realize the dream that her mother also had, which is to succeed as an actress. She leaves behind her childhood spent in hiding under a military dictatorship, and also leaves her seven-year old sister Petra. Twenty years later Petra becomes an actress and goes to New York to search for Elena. This moving story will be shown at SARTR at 18:15.

In the arts & docs selection, the films examine the relationship between cultural and socio-political practices, and the role of art in socio-political reality. Kino Meeting Point will be the host of the screening at 18:15 called ‘The search for Emak Bakia’ by Oskar Alegria from Spain, and at 22:15 ‘Bambi, Bambi’ by Sébastien Lifshitz from France will be shown. After this screening, there will be a discussion with Oskar Alegria.

In the re:versus selection, which brings an overview of films from the gloal scene of documentary film, the films ‘A diary of a journey’ by Piotr Stasik from Poland nd ‘Stories we tell’ by Sara Polley from Canada.

The retrospective program is dedicated to film collectives and will be shown this time in Art Kino Kriterion. Fans of documentary films will have the opportunity to watch ‘Handsworth Songs’ by the Black Audio Film Collective and ‘January 2012 or the Apotheosis of Isabella the Catholic Queen’ by Los Hijos. After this screening, there will be a discussion with Natalia Marin, representative of the Los Hijos Collective.
