The Heart of Sarajevo awards for TV series at 29th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival featured a professional jury comprising over 450 film professionals from the region. This year, they nominated 19 series across 14 categories.

Drama series and comedies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo*, and Slovenia that premiered between April 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023, were eligible for consideration.

A professional jury composed of film and TV professionals casted an electronic vote and determined the selection of nominated series for the Heart of Sarajevo awards. The same jury will subsequently determine the winners through another electronic vote. The announcement of the winners will take place during a ceremony held at the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival.

“This year marked another milestone in the era of high-quality drama series and comedies from the region. The nominations for this year’s awards demonstrate the rapid maturation of TV series production. The sustained number and caliber of produced series, along with the increasing participation of more countries in regular series production, have garnered significant interest from hundreds of film professionals in the region for the third consecutive year. We believe that this serves as a strong motivation for the continued growth of this industry.

After a five-year period during which the number of produced series consistently grew, it will be intriguing to observe the upcoming trend. The major players in the market will need to forge even stronger collaborations and not only excel domestically but also achieve greater success in international markets. Our belief is that the focus will shift towards reducing the overall number of productions while emphasizing enhanced production value and artistic quality, potentially through regional co-productions,” stated Jovan Marjanović, the director of the Sarajevo Film Festival.

The Heart of Sarajevo Awards for TV series will be awarded in two categories: drama series and comedy.

In the drama series category, 8 awards will be given: Best Drama Series, Best Leading Actress, Best Leading Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Rising Star, Best Director (per episode), and Best Script (per episode).

In the comedy category, 6 awards will be given: Best Comedy, Best Actress, Best Actor, Rising Star, Best Director (per episode), and for Best Script (per episode).
