Norwegians Digitalization henadrini.comPreparations for the great project which includes digitalization of the original manuscript of the novel “Na Drini ćuprija” (The Bridge on the Drina) by Ivo Andrić are in progress at the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts. The DVD edition of this manuscript will be available already in 2016.

The entire project of digitalization of this work is financed by the Norwegian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which dedicates special attention to investing in culture and infrastructure of B&H. On this occasion, the Norwegians allocated more than 90,000 BAM.

Digitalization of this text will enable access to this text to everyone, an insight in the genesis of the creation of this work, as well as an access to details which have not been available to the general public until today.

“Digitalization will preserve this work for eternity, and enable its reading in 100, 200, 300 years… We do not have to be afraid of fires, floods, nor be worried that the paper will dissolve after a certain period of time. We have a digital copy that will exist forever,” explained James Lyon, historian and founder of the Foundation for protection of historical heritage which participates in the project of the digitalization of this manuscript.

Damir Arsenijević, editor of the digital edition of the manuscript of the novel “Na Drini ćuprija”, said that this is a major event for Bosnia and Herzegovina since this is the first time that a very important text for the history of both B&H and Yugoslavia is being digitalized.

“Through this project, we assume responsibility for what has been left to us and we are aware of the fact that this manuscript belongs to all of all, all citizens of B&H. There are two versions of this text which have not been talked about a lot until now, and I believe this is time when we will again have the opportunity to open a discussion on topics important for our historical and literary tradition and the study of literature, but also the cultural heritage in B&H,” Arsenijević said.
