Njegos Sikiras and his performances for Stella Azzurra in Italy became the topic number one in our country.
Sikiras canceled his performance to the coach Josip Pandza for the World Cup in Spain. After two days, in the victory of his team against the team of Junior Novipiu (65:49), he enrolled a double-double performance with 15 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes on the basketball court, different speculations started, and some of them were saying that he decided to wear jersey of Serbia and therefore did not come to play for our national basketball team.
However, in an interview for Faktor, Sikiras denied all these allegations and said that he does not care about media speculations.
“I am familiar with everything that the media is writing about me in recent days. Everything they write are lies and that’s their thing. I do not care about it, because there is absolutely no truth. I am at the finals of the Italian U-18 Championship with Stella Azzurra. It is my obligation and my club, so it’s quite normal. I have earlier said that this year I will not be able to play for the national team, because I was not physically ready and eventual performance would further jeopardize both my health and career, and I’m not physically ready for all the efforts that would expect me there. Health is in the first place for me. I showed how much I care about BiH when I played complete European Championship with a knee injury in Lithuania. I must repeat that the only reason for my absence from the team is my injury and nothing else,” said Sikiras.
When asked if he was thinking about playing for Serbia, Sikiras said: “I am absolutely not interested in politics and I do not know why this keeps getting mentioned.”
