70. godisnjica Ujedinjenih nacija 14The marking of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and the presentation of the Global Sustainable Development Goals took place at the BiH Parliamentary Assembly building in Sarajevo. Addressing the present, UN Resident Coordinator in BiH Sezin Sinanoglu reflected on major guidelines of the United Nations Charter, which, as she noted, should remain a guiding principle for all. She also underlined the importance of 17 Sustainable Development Goals which by the year 2030 should make the world a better place to live in.

“This year the global community has taken a bold step – the 193 member states of the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals as the blueprint for global action until 2030. The goals originated from the voices of milions of people who took part in a global dialogue over three years and are just as important for developed countries as they are for developing ones. At their heart is human righs and freedoms with emphasis on equality”, said Sezin Sinanoglu and invited all in BiH to jointly and with the support of the United Nations Country Team in BiH achieve these goals.

Emir Mušić, a  young actor and second-grade high school student, also presented the goals as he sees them.

“Imagine a world without poor people and the one in which every child has a roof over their head, clean water, enough food, access to school and no fear what tomorrowbrings. Have you imagined it? Let’s work together to eradicate poverty and to achieve that everyone can exercise their fundamental rights”, Emir said as he presented the “No Poverty” goal.

“Not much time left before the year 2030, we must start now!”, was his message as he read out all 17 goals.

The Global Sustainable Development Goals are: no poverty; zero hunger; good health and well-being; quality education; gender equality; clean water and sanitation;affordable and clean energy; decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; reduced inequalities; sustainable cities and communities;responsible consumption and production; climate action; life below water, life on land; peace, justice and strong institutions, and the last one – partnerships for the goals.
