nikolic2The President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, will not pay an official visit to B&H today, as confirmed from the Cabinet of the President of Serbia.

Nikolić was supposed to pay his first official visit to Sarajevo today. However, Bosniak member of the Presidency of B&H, Bakir Izetbegović, asked him to cancel his visit.

Izetbegović explained that Nikolić should not come to Sarajevo, due to the current situation associated with arrest of Naser Orić.

Nikolić: Someone does not like good neighborly relationship between B&H and Serbia

The full Statement of the Cabinet of the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, regarding the visit to Sarajevo:

Serbia is very committed to good neighborly relationship and cooperation with countries from the region. At the same time, significant amount of attention is dedicated for nurturing of quality relations with B&H, according to the Dayton Agreement. Furthermore, as a leader in the region, Serbia represents a factor of peace and stability. Today’s visit to Sarajevo and meeting with members of the Presidency of B&H would prove these statements. However, the request from the member of the Presidency of B&H, Bakir Izetbegović to Serbian President, Tomislav Nikolić to cancel his visit, will not change the good intentions of Serbia towards B&H and its citizens.

Unfortunately, instead of calming tensions in the region through the dialog, we received a request for the meeting delay, in order for some individuals to gain political points among ultranationalists. Serbia is ready for dialogue in order to achieve an agreement regarding all issues of mutual interest for these two countries. The request for the delay of the visit resembles on the 2012, when a member of the Presidency of B&H, Bakir Izetbegović, had not come to Belgrade due to the similar reasons as these today. During the three years of his mandate, the president of Serbia has demonstrated honest intentions towards all citizens of B&H, as well as commitment to reconciliation and prosperity of the region.

Furthermore, during the last year’s floods in May, President Nikolić initiated the proposition that B&H becomes a part of a donors’ conference that was aimed to raise funds for the elimination of consequences and help the areas affected by the floods. During these three years, the relations between Serbia and B&H have become much better.

Obviously someone did not like this fact, and decided to deteriorate good-neighborly relations between these countries. However, Serbia will not withdraw the policy of peace, stability and cooperation, since it is the only possible and the only reasonable way to go. Sooner or later, this will be concluded by those whose motives and intentions are now different. President Nikolić is ready to pay an official visit to B&H, when all three members of the Presidency of B&H show unity and readiness, “as said in the statement.
