railwayThe first train on the railway Samac-Sarajevo, which was constructed by the youth work, departed on the 16th of November 1947.

The construction of 240 kilometers long railway lasted for a little more than 7 months. A total of 212,000 young people was engaged on the construction of railways and 107 buildings along the tracks.

Large number of young people from Kakanj participated in the construction of the second Youth railway Samac-Sarajevo. Also, young people from Kakanj participated in the construction of the first Youth railway Brcko-Banovici as well. The evidence for this is a photography taken in April 1946, at the train station in Kakanj, while youth from Kakanj were returning from action. They worked the second shift.

There is a record from 1947 in the archives of the Municipality of Kakanj, recorded by Rade Jovanovic, which talks about the start of construction of the railway Samac-Sarajevo.
