One of the best female Athletes in History, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, arrives in Sarajevo

Jackie Joyner-Kersee, one of the best sportswomen in history, landed in Sarajevo.

Joyner-Kersee, winner of a total of ten medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships in long jump and heptathlon, came to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The 64-year-old American is the owner of the world record in the heptathlon of 7,291 points, which she set in Seoul back in 1988, and because of her achievements, the prestigious American magazine Sports Illustrated for Women declared her the best athlete of the 20th century in fierce competition with great women like Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Nadia Comaneci, Florence Griffith Joyner…

She arrived in Sarajevo as one of the guests of the Symposium, which will be held from September 18 to 20 at the Swissotel Sarajevo.

“I’m glad to be in Sarajevo and I want to invite you all to come to the Symposar,” said Joyner-Kersee after landing at Sarajevo International Airport.


The Jubilee Symposar brings many big names of world, European and regional sports to Sarajevo. Among the announced guests are Sergej Barbarez, coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, Nadine Kessler, director of UEFA women’s football, former best soccer player in the world and European champion, famous BiH football coach Vahid Halilhodžić, former BiH national team member and sports director of Bayern Hasan Salihamidžić, and famous Turkish coach and former coach of Turkey Abdullah Avci.

Among the participants are Damir Skomina, former elite UEFA football referee and analyst, Abdulaziz Alshehri, world champion in FIFA e-sports, Tomislav Ivković, famous Croatian former national team player, goalkeeper and football coach, and Vujadin Stanojković, famous football player and coach, especially engaged in working with the younger national teams of North Macedonia, and Blaž Slišković, legend of BiH football.

This year’s edition of the Symposium will be dedicated to contemporary challenges and the future of sports, leadership, youth development, women’s sports, technology and artificial intelligence in sports, as well as the role of sports in connecting people and societies.

A special segment of the jubilee edition will be dedicated to marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the ABA league, while reminding of the important role of Sarajevo and Basketball Club Bosna in starting this significant regional sports project.
