Ostoja Stanišić, who was previously sentenced to five years in prison for the genocide in Srebrenica by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was killed in a traffic accident that happened yesterday in Kladanj.

The accident occurred when the car landed in the river, although it has not yet been officially confirmed, numerous media announced that it was Ostoja Stanišić and that an autopsy had been ordered.

According to the final verdict, Stanišić was found guilty of knowingly assisting members of the RS army and police, including Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić, in the implementation of a plan to permanently and forcibly remove the entire Bosniak civilian population from the UN-protected zone of Srebrenica, in which up to 40,000 Bosniak civilians were relocated from the Srebrenica enclave, and more than 7,000 Bosniak men and the boy was summarily killed.

The court concluded that on July 14 and 15, 1995, members of the Sixth Battalion, under the supervision of the accused Stanišić, participated in the reception and security of several hundred captured men from Srebrenica, who were kept in a school in the Zvornik village of Petkovci without basic conditions, exposed to fighting, and at least 20 of them were killed.

In the first-instance proceedings, Stanišić was sentenced to 11 years, however, after a repeated trial, he was sentenced to five years in prison. Stanišić was released in 2020 after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
