In the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the new school year started today, and many younger and older schoolchildren will sit down for the first time after the summer break in primary and secondary schools. Classes have started in the RepublikaSrpska and most cantons in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

About 121,000 primary and secondary school students sat down in the classrooms in the RS. Unlike previous years, the 2022/23 school year is taking place without the restrictions and measures that were in effect during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to earlier analyses, a total of about 4,000 students enrolled in the first grade in the new school year in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminovic, sent a congratulatory message to all actors of this educational process in Sarajevo Canton.

“In the past period, we worked intensively, so that we could welcome this school year ready. The Ministry of Education and the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education CS is empowering educators and preparing curriculum reform in classrooms. We are improving the standard for families, we have provided free textbooks for all students from the fifth to the ninth grade,” the minister said.

“We have also secured co-financing for a record 5,000 children in Sarajevo Canton in private preschool institutions. We are improving the school environment and working intensively on the modernization of schools in classrooms, sports halls, in the physics, chemistry, and biology cabinets, we are acquiring IT equipment and are taking big steps, in order to caught up with the developed part of the world. We do all this for our children, our most important resource, which nothing can replace,” said Hota-Muminovic.

There are 79 elementary schools in Sarajevo Canton, seven of which are private. About 54,000 students started classes in primary and secondary schools in Sarajevo Canton today.

Cantonal and entity authorities also provided funds to provide free textbooks for students from the first to the ninth grade.

Back in June, the Government of the RS adopted a decision to provide free textbooks for elementary school students in the 2022/2023 school year, for the procurement of which budget funds of 4.5 million BAM are planned.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Science announced that this year it secured 400,000 BAM for the purchase of free textbooks for students in a state of social need who attend basic education in the 2022/2023 school year in the territory of the entire Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
