The auction was held on the 16th of March 2016, in the organization of auction house Christie’s, which is one of the most famous auction houses in this branch.

Although the estimated value of the painting was between 400,000 and 600,000 USD, it reached almost double the price on the auction.

From the auction house Christie’s said that this is another example of the growth of the art market in the Middle East, as well as increase of the value of artists from this region.

El-Nagdi is an Egyptian artist who was born in 1931, and he is considered as one of the most important living artists in Egypt.

“His painting ‘Sarajevo’ is probably one of the best representations of the horrors of war ever since Picasso’s ‘Guernica’,” as stated from the auction house Christie’s.
