The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of Land Day, recalls that on March 30th of each year we remember the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people to preserve their land and rights. Land Day dates back to 1976, when the Israeli occupation authorities seized large areas of Palestinian land, which sparked mass protests in defense of the territory.
During these events, six Palestinians were killed: Khair Yasin, Raja Abu Riya, Khader Khalayla, Khadija Shawahna, Mohsen Taha and Raafat Al-Zuhairi, and hundreds were injured and arrested.
The protests took place in Palestinian towns and villages, the most famous of which are Sakhnin, Arraba, Deir Hanna, Taybeh and Kafr Kanna.
Land Day symbolizes commitment to the Palestinian land, identity and determination to preserve the right to existence and dignity, despite the challenges of occupation and the expansion of Israeli settlements. The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina appeals to the international community and relevant international organizations to intensify efforts to implement United Nations resolutions, in particular UN Resolution 242, which calls for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the occupied territories and affirms the right of all states in the region to peace and security.
This resolution constitutes the basis for a two-state solution, in which Palestinians have the right to live in peace and security within the borders of a recognized State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions. We call on all actors in the international community to ensure respect for human rights, international humanitarian law and the protection of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories (Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem), in order to facilitate a lasting solution for the occupier and sustainable peace in the region.
The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina reaffirms its continued commitment to justice, peace and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
