Palestinian Doctor: When I was treating the Wounded during the Siege of Sarajevo, I never thought such a thing would happen again

Palestinian doctor Mohammed al-Ran, who was recently evacuated from Gaza after spending 45 days in Israeli captivity, was present at yesterday’s rally in support of the Palestinian people in Sarajevo. Al-Ran, who treated the wounded during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), stated that at that time he thought that such a thing would never happen again, but unfortunately, in Gaza over the past months, he witnessed an even greater catastrophe.

A rally in support of the Palestinian people was held on the plateau in front of the Sarajevo City Hall yesterday, and a large number of Sarajevo citizens attended. Among the numerous Palestinians who came to the rally was Palestinian doctor Mohammed al-Ran, who until recently was the head of surgery at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.

“Today marks exactly six months. The painful fact is that people are still dying, and still hungry, and it is still unclear what will happen to those people. The support for Israel to do whatever it wants is still ongoing,” said Al-Ran yesterday.

He notes that the world still has not fully awakened regardingthe events in Gaza.

“And every day you see massacres, every day you see killings, every day. This is not just a question of people in Gaza, this is a civilizational issue,” adds Al-Ran.

He adds that people in the world have lost confidence in the concepts of humanity and human rights because they are witnessing what is happening in Gaza.

“The aim of that war is genocide. It has been publicly stated (by Israel) that they will commit genocide in front of the whole world. And none of the world has reacted, maybe it reacted with shame, but there are still no official positions in line with the massacres that are happening,” explains Al-Ran.

He recalls working as a doctor during the siege of Sarajevo and mentions that he recently attended the commemoration of the beginning of the siege.

“The fate of these two peoples is connected. As a doctor-surgeon, I worked during the war in BiH (in Sarajevo), participated in the treatment of the wounded, and lived through part of that war. And back then, I thought such a thing would never happen again,” says Al-Ran.

Al-Ran addressed the gathered citizens in front of the City Hall. In an emotional address speaking about the horrors that the residents of Gaza are going through, he thanked all BiH citizens for their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, saying: “Palestinians are not alone, as long as there are people like the citizens of BiH.”, AA writes.
