One of the 14 priorities ordered by the European Commission as a prerequisite for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) path to the European Union (EU) refers to the efficient coordination of border management and, in that direction, action to solve the migrant crisis.

The Ministry of Security of BiH has made migration management a top priority in its work over the past two years.

BiH has stepped up its efforts to resolve the migrant crisis

Based on the report of the European Commission, BiH has made progress in solving the migrant crisis and improving migration management.

”These efforts are visible in the field, but they were also recognized in the Report of the European Commission on the progress of BiH for the year 2021, where it was assessed in a positive context that BiH has strengthened its efforts to improve migration management. This year too, the BiH Ministry of Security continued to work on establishing efficient coordination in border management and strengthening migration management capacity, as well as the functioning of the asylum system,” announced the Ministry of Security of BiH.

As for the mechanisms used by the BiH Ministry of Security in terms of solving the migrant crisis, the main focus is on strengthening coordination between all levels of government and institutions.

“In the past period, two reception centers (Miral and Sedra) were closed, and Lipa and the renovated Borici center were opened, which ensured sufficient capacity for the accommodation of migrants, especially for the most vulnerable categories, i.e. families with children (Borici center),” they said from this ministry, Klix.ba writes.
