The senior Balkan Championship in table tennis, the 39th in a row, will be held from 29 August to 1 September in KSC Skenderija in Sarajevo.
In the tournament organized by the Table Tennis Academy STAD, 150 competitors from 10 countries will participate, and 12 athletes will represent B&H, six men and six women.
Member of the Technical Commission of the Balkan Table Tennis Union and the technical delegate of the competition Borislav Pejaković said at today’s press conference that it is nice that competition with Balkan countries is being held in Sarajevo, in a period when the Balkan Table Tennis Union is marking its 50th anniversary.
‘’Unfortunately, people do not know how important is this championship for Sarajevo and for the Balkan Table Tennis Union, which has survived 50 years despite all the problems that have afflicted this region. We are not in Sarajevo by coincidence and we believe that the championship will be at a top level’’, said Pejaković.
Mensud Handžić spoke on behalf of the Old Town municipality, and praised the persistence of STAD Academy for the organization of a technically and financially demanding competition.
‘’The persistence and enthusiasm of people from STAD Academy should be praised. Municipality Stari Grad has recognized their efforts and decided to help the organization in technical and financial terms’’, said Handžić.
The best table tennis players from the Balkans will travel today to Sarajevo, and in the evening will have training before tomorrow’s start of the competition. All games will take place in hall 1 of KSC Skenderija.
