EU ambassadors confirmed today the appointment of Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen as the new EU Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Tanjug reported, citing diplomatic sources in Brussels.
Sorensen will begin his term in February, and the final step in the procedure for his appointment is the approval of the foreign ministers of the EU member states, which he should receive on Monday, January 27.
The Danish diplomat was proposed by the new European High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kalas to succeed Miroslav Lajčák as the special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue.
Sorensen is a career diplomat who has worked for years in the Western Balkans, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he was the head of the EU Delegation from 2011 to 2014.
