Pivic: The entire Election Process was conducted in Accordance with the Statute of the SDA

The President of the Election Commission of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Nezir Pivić, told reporters today, before the start of the session of the Main Board of that party, that the Commission certified the candidacy for the party’s president yesterday, in accordance with the procedure implemented. He pointed out that the entire process within the SDA was conducted in accordance with the Party’s Statute, the Rules of the electoral procedure and in accordance with the Instructions.

“All those acts are harmonized with the Statute, and based on that, the whole procedure was carried out, which lasted a very long time. We had a very democratic process that started from the lowest level of organization-the local branch,” Pivić said.

He cited the example of Zenica, where there are 65 local branches and each had the opportunity to propose their candidate for all levels of organization, “and in the end the authorities made that decision and forwarded their proposal to the cantonal, and finally to the SDA Central, i.e. the Election Commission”.

“I responsibly claim that the entire electoral process was conducted in accordance with the Statute and the Rules of the electoral procedure. One maximally transparent process. I can state that out of a total of 15 regional and cantonal committees, they nominated Bakir Izetbegović for the president of the SDA. Therefore, 100 percent of the cantonal and regional boards nominated Bakir Izetbegović for president, while we did not have a single candidacy for Šemsudin Mehmedović,” stated Pivić.

He added that, when talking about municipal or city committees, out of the total number of valid proposals, 95 proposals were for Bakir Izetbegović, while eight proposals were for Šemsudin Mehmedović.

“Yesterday, we certified the candidate for president, that is Bakir Izetbegović, because in accordance with the Statute, he is the only one who has obtained the conditions to be a candidate at the Congress,” Pivić said.

He noted that in the public discourse, the fact that someone had already run for a candidate, and that the Election Commission actually rejected that candidacy, was imposed as a certain topic.

He explained that it does not happen in such a way, adding that the election process is very simple.

– We collect the candidacies of individual municipal organizations so that not a single candidate who has an interest in being the president of the SDA has anything to do with the nomination process. One of the candidates said that he submitted his candidacy. The election process does not know that. We certify based on the received proposals from the field,” Pivić pointed out.

He also gave some examples of why they did not recognize certain municipal organizations, adding that they have several municipal organizations where the bodies are not constituted at all, and they had proposals from those municipal organizations, where there are no bodies at all, where no body was elected.

He also stated that they also had a municipal committee, where there was a signature of a person who is not in the party’s membership records.

“These are the reasons for rejecting those candidacies,” explained Pivić.

Answering a journalist’s question regarding the rejected candidacies, he said that this does not only apply to Semsudin Mehmedović, and that “there are candidacies that were also rejected for Bakir Izetbegović”, Fena reports.
