The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Fadil Novalic, and the Deputy Prime Minister and the Federal Minister of Finance, Jelka Milicevic, talked on Wednesday with the newly appointed Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission in BiH, Alina Iancu.
During the meeting, held via video link, Novalic and Milicevicbriefed the IMF leader for BiH on the current economic situation in the FBiH.
Novalic mentioned the measures taken by the FBiH Government to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic.
“Out of 27.000 people who lost their jobs in the FBiH due to the pandemic, today that number has been reduced to 7.000. According to the latest data, only in the period from June 14th to June 21st this year, the number of employed people in the Federation increased by 1.068,” told Novalic.
Also, he added that he encourages increased tourist traffic in the FBiH.
“We see the IMF as a friend and someone who always supports our reform processes,” Milicevic stated, pointing out that in the last year the federal budget, despite all the problems caused by the pandemic, ended with a surplus of 7.000.000 BAM.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Federal Government is still focused on the economy and, in that context, emphasized the importance of the Credit Guarantee Fund of 500 million BAM, as well as the co-financing of interest rates for the industry with three percent and agriculture with five percent.
“We will also pass new regulations which will provide further assistance to the economy of the FBiH,” added the Prime Minister.
”The leaders of the Federal Government wished the new Head of the IMF for BiH, Alina Iancu, success in performing this duty, ” the Office of the Federal Prime Minister announced.
