PM of the Federation of BiH: It is important to pass three key Laws

The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Nermin Niksic, said on Wednesday from the international symposium “Challenge 2023” in Neum that solutions to problems can only be found through discussions.

Referring to the session of the Steering Committee of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) held in Sarajevo, the federal prime minister said that it is important to pass three key laws – the law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), public procurement and conflict of interest.

“There are certain tasks set before us that we took on as part of these 14 priorities of the European Commission in order to start negotiations on this path of our membership. We were given candidate status and that did not happen because of some of our activities. I do not know in which direction it will go the conclusions of the PIC, but I believe that the partners who formed the Council of Ministers of BiH and who have the majority in the state parliament should support each other, to pass these three key laws, the law on the HJPC, on public procurement and conflict of interest,” Niksic pointed out.

At the same time, he also reminded of the obligation to amend the Election Law.

“We immediately became a target as if we were going to betray something. I believe that there is no alternative to talks and agreements in BiH. If we do not talk, we will certainly not reach a solution. If we are not ready to do anything, if we teach lessons about false patriotism and use spitting and expect that someone will love BiH, we are badly mistaken. It should be worked and talked hard, we must also agree on the minimum,” said Niksic.

When asked what the minimum is, the Prime Minister replied that the minimum is the Electoral Law, which complies with the European Union (EU) standards.

He also referred to the situation surrounding the formation of a new government in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), where the DF said that there would be opposition.

“I was not optimistic that the DF would be able to bring it to the HNC, the decision of the DF leadership was expected for me, because they have been tied to the SDA for years, as if by some kind of umbilical cord,” Niksic concluded, Radio Sarajevo writes.
