Poland is investing about 2.5 billion dollars in strengthening security and deterring migrants on the border with Russia and its ally Belarus, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
Tusk stated that work has already begun on the project, which includes the construction of military fortifications and shaping the terrain.
Poland is on the eastern wing of NATO and the EU, and Tusk pointed out that it bears additional responsibility for European security.
“We have decided to invest in our security and above all in a secure eastern border, about 10 billion zlotys ($2.5 billion),” Tusk said.
He added that these works will make the border “impenetrable to a potential enemy”.
“We started these works to make the Polish border safe in peacetime and impenetrable to the enemy in wartime,” said the Polish prime minister.
He addressed Polish soldiers in Krakow, in the south of the country, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory against the Nazis at the Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II, Srna writes.
