On Tuesday, members of the BiH Zvornik Border Police Unit prevented the smuggling of eight persons of Afro-Asian origin in the area of Zvornik.

After observing a boat from Republika Srpska sailing on the Drina River towards Bosnia and Herzegovina during the surveillance of the state border and with the use of specialist equipment, members of the Zvornik GPBiH Unit stopped the boat in which there were ten people of Afro-Asian origin, announced the GPBiH.

The duty prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office was informed about this event and according to his order, the two suspects who were driving the boat (according to the statement, citizens of Afghanistan and Iran) were deprived of their liberty and will be handed over to the prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office along with the report on the crime of “person smuggling”.

The boat and other evidence were temporarily confiscated. The remaining eight smuggled persons, among whom there were also minors, stated that they come from Afghanistan and will be heard as witnesses with the help of an authorized translator. Further work on this case is underway.

In the aforementioned event, the members of the GPBiH were supported by the members of the State Agency for Investigation and Protection, who provide assistance to this police agency in monitoring the state border.
