Policeman Sladjan Dacic (28) from Prijedor, was not on duty when he jumped into Sana River at the city bridge in Prijedor and rescued a young man who attempted suicide.

“He kept saying that he does not know how to swim, but he needs to jump,” said Dacic.

Sladjan ran to the end of the bridge and jumped into the river after him.

“I managed to catch him and grab him by his shirt and then we went about 300-400 meters downstream,” stated Sladjan.

He added that the young man came to his senses very soon and thanked him for saving his life.

Sladjan’s girlfriend had already called the ambulance and the police who waited for them at the shore.

After medical assistance, young man was taken to the Department of Psychiatry, where he was further taken care of.

Sladjan said that he would do the same thing again in a similar situation, and that he believes that each and every single one of his colleagues would do the same.
