Popular Iraqi Influencer killed in front of her Home

Iraqi influencer Om Fahad, whose real name is Ghufran Sawadi, was killed outside her home in Baghdad.

The attacker arrived on a motorcycle and pretended to be a food delivery man, then shot her. She rose to fame on TikTok where she posted videos of herself dancing to Iraqi music.

Last year, the Iraqi government launched a campaign to delete content from social networks that it considers to violate its traditions and morals.

An interior ministry committee was set up to search TikTok, YouTube and other platforms for clips deemed offensive.

In February 2023, Om was sentenced to six months in prison for sharing a video that the court found contained obscene speech that violates morals. Meanwhile, several other influencers were arrested for the same reason.
