The Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zukan Helez, together with the Deputy Ministers Slaven Galić and Aleksandar Goganović, on Monday, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Roem Kono.

The meeting discussed the possibilities of establishing future military and economic cooperation between the two countries. Views on the security situation in the world were also exchanged, and both delegations expressed their determination to strengthen peace initiatives. Ambassador Kono reminded that since the time of the Non-Aligned Republic of Indonesia movement, Indonesia has cultivated good relations with the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he also emphasized that Indonesian President Suharto visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 1995, and that Indonesia also helped build the Istiqlal Mosque in Sarajevo. The Indonesian ambassador particularly expressed interest in mutual cooperation in the field of military training and military industry.

Minister Helez presented the priorities and main activities of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He thanked the Indonesian ambassador for his expressed readiness for greater bilateral cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Indonesia. He emphasized that he is ready to mediate in possible joint projects in the field of military industry.

Deputy Minister Goganović expressed his commitment to full cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia and highlighted the importance of the EUFOR mission that contributes to security in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the importance of the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of the priorities. Deputy Minister Galić also welcomed Indonesia’s readiness for stronger cooperation and pointed out that it can be useful both economically and militarily.

Assistant Minister of Defense of BiH for International Cooperation Zoran Šajinović, Head of the Economic Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Yudhono Irawan and Head of the Political Department Ririn Dwi Fitriani and Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense of BiH Salko Beba and other associates took part in the conversation.
