Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) who live and work in Italy will be able to exchange valid BiH driver’s licenses for Italian ones starting March 17th, without the need to retake the theoretical or practical part of the driving exam, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH announced on Friday.

“The same applies to Italian citizens in BiH,” stated the state minister of communications and transport, Edin Forto, thereby announcing the imminent entry into force of the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Driver’s Licenses.

The agreement allows licenses issued by the competent authorities of one contracting party to be mutually recognized in the territory of the other, benefiting their holders who obtain permanent residence.

It is important to note that a driver’s license ceases to be valid in the territory of the other party one year after acquiring permanent residence in that country, the ministry stated.
