Tunnel D-B Opening mojportal.baPreparation and making of a new conceptual design for the Memorial complex Tunnel D-B, as well as the consideration of technical possibilities for putting this tunnel into operation in its entire length under the airport runway, were the reasons for yesterday’s meeting of representatives from the Ministry for Veterans’ Issues of the Sarajevo Canton, the Memorial Fund of the Sarajevo Canton, and the Public Enterprise the Sarajevo International Airport.

“In the projection of tourism development in our Canton, the Tunnel D-B takes a significant place. It is an exceptionally important historical and cultural property that has enormous potentials for the improvement of tourist offer and our aim is to gather all necessary consents and permits from relevant institutions and international agencies in order to approach the making of a conceptual design of revitalization and using of the complete tunnel as soon as possible. We primarily need the final opinion by the Sarajevo International Airport, the Directorate for Civil Aviation of B&H, as well as the Agency for provision of services in air navigation of B&H,” explained the Minister for Veterans’ Issues of the Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fišo.

Information was exchanged on activities undertaken so far regarding the reconstruction of the Tunnel D-B, its current condition, activities being implemented on its maintenance, the necessary procedures, and opinions about the implementation of the mentioned project gathered so far.

Director of the International Airport Sarajevo Armin Kajmaković highlighted that the newly appointed management of this enterprise is aware of the importance of the Tunnel D-B and that it is ready to continue with discussion about the fulfillment of conditions for the implementation of this important project through the development plans of this enterprise and in the domain of its jurisdictions.

The joint conclusion is to start with the design of an Action Plan with concrete steps and suggestion of activities for the gathering of opinions and consents from relevant institutions which are necessary for putting the Tunnel D-B into full operation as a destination for the promotion of war tourism.

“The Action Plan will make an inventory of everything we dispose with from the aspect of legal regulates, technical safety and financial possibilities,” Kajmaković added.
