zikaThe World Health Organization published that it is expected that the zika virus will spread to Europe in the coming several weeks, or more precisely by summer. Risk of infection will be mostly moderate.

The virus is expected in the European region in late spring and in summer.

Greater risk for appearance of the virus is in the areas where the mosquito species Aedes aegypti lives. This mosquito species has been spotted in Madeira, in the Portuguese archipelago and on the northeastern coast of the Black Sea in Russia and Georgia.

There is a moderate possibility that the virus will appear in 18 European countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Israel, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and Vatican.

Because of serous preparations for defense from mosquitoes, there is no possibility that the virus will spread to other European countries, the WHO published on the official website.
