Srebrenica ibtimes.co.ukFifty-five victims of genocide in Srebrenica have been identified for burial on July 11 in Potočari.

Spokesperson of the Missing Persons Institute of BiH Lejla Čengić said that those are posthumous remains found in many mass graves revealed in area of Podrinje, whose families stated that they will be buried at the collective burial on July 11.

Čengić emphasized that number of victims who will be buried will increase by the burial and that identification of victims will intensify in the upcoming period.

”Another 154 victims have been identified in Podrinje Identification Project (PIP) in Tuzla, but families stated they want to wait before they are buried due to incomplete bodies,” Čengić explained.

There are also around 300 active cases, where the identity of victims was determined based on DNA analysis and families have been notified, but they also stated they want to wait due to incomplete bodies.

”Unfortunately, most Srebrenica victims were found in secondary mass graves, which is why bodies that were found are incomplete,” said Čengić.

So far 6.241 victims have been buried in Potočari and 230 victims out of Potočari, according to their families’ wishes.

”Therefore, total of 6.471 victims, who were murdered in July 1995 in area of Srebrenica, have been identified and buried,” said Čengić.
