Potatoes from Nevesinje to become a Brand

Potato producers from Nevesinje are on the good path to get the protection of geographic origin, i.e. to get protected, exclusive right to sell their product under the name “Nevesinjski” on domestic and foreign markets.

They started the procedure in February this year due to the long tradition, the protection of production and the better purchase price. It will be the first certified product in Herzegovina.

Long tradition, a place among the four largest potato seed producers in the region, are great conditions for the organic growth of potato of top quality – and more than enough for branding and label “Nevesinjski”. The first steps are taken, and manufacturers are determined to ensure that their product gets the place it deserves on the market.

“The quality of our potato is indisputable. It does not need irrigation, chemistry, nor supplementation. Therefore, it is a pure organic product,” said Veso Radic, a potato producer from Pridvorci.

The Mayor of the Municipality Nevesinje, Milenko Avdalovic, said that the producers have a full support from the municipality and that the study is currently in the process of preparation, after which will follow the fulfillment of the conditions for obtaining a label of origin.

The market likes safety, quality, controlled origin, autochthonousness and specificity, and it does not regret to pay for such products. Domestic manufacturers already solved part of the jigsaw puzzle – they should now brand the organic food and drinks that were traditionally produced because the brand is sold easier.
