The implementation of new election technologies for the 2026 General Election is proceeding according to plan, and the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) and partners in the project have already implemented a number of key activities, including configuration and testing of equipment, control of ballots, and training of election staff.
CEC BiH, in cooperation with the supplier, i.e. the group of suppliers Smartmatic BH d.o.o. and DSC d.o.o. Smartmatic BVI, in a short period of time, realized key activities to prepare the implementation of specific election technologies for the General Elections, scheduled for October 4.
Activities currently underway include testing and configuring devices, printing and controlling ballots, checking QR codes, and training election committee members, operators, and field support technicians.
The CEC points out that the achieved progress is particularly significant considering the complexity of the project, the introduction of new election technologies, short implementation deadlines and the late conclusion of the contract.

They also emphasize that, despite the challenges and obstructions that accompanied the public procurement process, members of the CEC of BiH, employees of the CEC Secretariat, the Temporary Unit for the Implementation of Specific Election Technologies, the municipal and city election commissions, the supplier and other partners continue to work intensively on the realization of the remaining activities within the stipulated deadlines.
Significant support for the process is provided by the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and non-governmental organizations that, through cooperation and professional support, contribute to strengthening the capacity for the conduct of elections.
The general elections of 2026 represent one of the most complex electoral processes in BiH due to the introduction of new technologies, extensive logistical requirements and limited time for preparation. Despite this, the activities so far are being realized according to the planned dynamics, and all participants continue to work on fulfilling the remaining obligations.
The joint engagement and coordination of all involved institutions and partners creates the prerequisites for the General Elections to be conducted in an organized, safe manner and in accordance with legal procedures.
The results so far confirm the commitment of the CEC to, in cooperation with all partners, ensure timely preparation and smooth implementation of the election process, it was stated in the statement of the Central Election Commission of BiH.
