Preparations for this year’s “Peace March 2018”, a pedestrian walk that is organized with the aim to pay tribute to the victims of Srebrenica genocide, are lasting for several months already.
“Works are currently stopped due to weather conditions, but they will be continued as soon as possible. We sent requests to all embassies in BiH to assist us in the demining of the terrain on the route Buljim-Kamenicko Hill right after the 22nd anniversary. Participants of the peace march were avoiding that route, because it was not safe,” said Habibovic.
“Our goal for this route is to be passable. Those who cannot go through that path will always have an alternative, which is the route that has been used through all these years,” stated Habibovic.
“Peace march” from Nezuk to Potocari is one of the most comprehensive and largest activities within the process of marking the anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks “SZ UN Srebrenica”.
The column of participants, which counts thousands of people from all parts of BiH and the world is getting larger each year, departs from Nezuk (the municipality of Sapna) and crosses the route of about 100 kilometers to reach Potocari in a period of three days.
At the end of the march, all the participants have the opportunity to attend commemoration and participate in the funeral and burial of identified victims of genocide, who are found in one of the mass graves from the localities that they went through during the march.
