Presidency of BiH still without the Unified Attitude on Ukraine Crisis

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet announced attitude as an institution after the Russian recognition of the sovereignty of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic.

What can be expected are individual messages from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s officials.

BiH Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic strongly condemns “Russia’s attack on the territory of Ukraine”.

Komsic told Fena that he was commenting on Russia’s recognition of the breakaway Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Luhansk, and the entry of Russian troops into the area.

“The territorial integrity and sovereignty of UN member states must be respected. This is guaranteed by international law. Violent actions by individual states seeking military aspirations for the territories of other states must be strongly condemned and responded to by UN institutions and the civilized world. In that sense, I strongly condemn Russia’s attack on the territory of Ukraine, “Komsic said.

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic condemned the decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the independence of the two Ukrainian regions.

“I condemn the decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the two Ukrainian regions as states, which is a flagrant violation of international law,” Dzaferovic said in a message posted on his official Facebook page.

Dzaferovic added that Bosnia and Herzegovina respects and supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

BiH Presidency Member Milorad Dodik said on the statements of Sefik Dzaferovic and Zeljko Komsic: “It is not the position of BiH, the Presidency is responsible for conducting foreign policy, they continue to divide BiH in this way to disavow and derogate official BiH bodies. Their position can absolutely be considered their private, political private attitude, it is not the attitude of the institutions and I think they have abused the situation.BiH can only achieve and I urge us to do so is a neutral attitude about all this and nothing more. If they appreciate that in this way gain sympathy, I was also invited as a member of the Presidency to join some positions, but I think it is only realistic to expect BiH to be completely neutral at this time, because we all have our sympathies, if you want I can talk about my own, but I think the fact that Komsic and Dzaferovic ran to line up is an absolute indication that they did not take care of BiH and that it does not represent BiH.

BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic has joined in strongly condemning Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of parts of Ukraine’s territory. “BiH has diplomatic relations with Ukraine and respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We believe that the latest decision of the Russian Federation is a violation of international law and threatens to provoke a dangerous escalation of the crisis,” Turkovic told Fena news agency today.
