tinatinSarajevo – A Georgian film “Brides” directed by Tinatin Kajrishvili was screened today at the press conference within the Competition program of live action film of the 20th SFF.

Among others, the roles in this film were played by Mari Kitia, George Maskharshvili, Natia Niguriani, Ana Grigolia, Nita Kalichava, Levan Kajrishvili and Erekle Tsinsadze.

The story in this film takes place in one Georgian prison and shows us the lives of separated families.

The director and screen writer of the film, Kajrishvili, said at the press conference after the film that this is a big problem in Georgia because their government has no tolerance on any type of criminal.

“That kind of situation has a double effect, there was no criminal and still, lots of people went to prison. People get ten years for very small crimes.” – she pointed out.

She also added that they did not have a large budget for the film and that they raised money for two years. She emphasized that the film was shoot in the real prison and hardly convinced the authorities to allow them to do that. Kajrishvili said that there was no difference between little and big criminals in the prison and that all of them had the same treatment.

“This is a film which tells a story about a husband in prison and his wife who is out free, but in a claustrophobic environment, having in fact the same destiny as her husband.” – she said.

Kajrishvili emphasized that the Georgian government abolished this law and that around half of the prisoners were released.

The film will be shown tonight at the National Theatre.
