At the trial of Rejhan Rakovic et al, who are charged before the State Court with recruitment corruption in the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and illegal demanding and receiving money from candidates, witness Zoran Galic said that there was a lot of pressure to cancel the competition.
The Director of the BiH Border Police, Zoran Galic, said that in 2020, together with his assistant and deputy, he formed the Cadet Admission Commission, in which they elected Rejhan Rakovic as president, members Ivica Sablja and Djordje Kusmuk, and Mirsada Alic as a secretary, as well as two members from the BiH Ministry of Security.
In the continuation of his testimony, Galic explained that the basic tasks of the commission are to carry out written and physical testing of the registered candidates, in which a subcommittee appointed by the director at the proposal of the president of the commission participates due to the volume of work, and that at the end, security and health checks are carried out on the candidates who pass. As the director of the Border Police, Galic said that a few hours before, he would only certify the test with the questions for the competition procedure proposed by the commission.
When asked by prosecutor Bojana Jolovic, he said that there were no specific complaints about the work of the commission, but that together with his deputies, Fahrudin Halac and Dragan Kulic, he organized a meeting with Rakovic, who told him that he was under pressure, in order to support the commission.
”They started writing in the media that the competition would be rigged. I organized a meeting to break all the pressure and I said that I wanted the process to go into the procedure of complete legality,” said Galic, adding that Rakovic had external pressures.
After Rakovic was arrested, Galic says that he had pressure from all sides to cancel the competition, because the media reported that the accused was bringing him money. Galic says that canceling the competition would violate the law, and that ”the fate of the competition is in the hands of the Police Committee”, which is considering the complaints received.
Rejhan Rakovic, Ensar Salcinovic, and Kenit Cakic are charged with conspiring to commit criminal acts and receiving gifts and other forms of benefits. Cakic is also charged with giving gifts and other forms of benefits. According to the indictment, in the period from November 2020 to September 24th, 2021, Rakovic joined a group of police officers from the same institution, Salcinovic, and Cakic, with whom he is on friendly terms, in the capacity of an official, as a police officer of the Border Police. They are accused of demanding and receiving money from candidates who applied for a job in the Border Police, Detektor reports.
