Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez made Spain’s recognition of the state of Palestine official at a press conference, saying it was a historic decision.
He announced that at today’s meeting the Government of Spain will approve the recognition.
“Spain will thus join more than 140 countries that already recognize Palestine as a state in the world. This is a historic decision that has one goal. To help Israelis and Palestinians achieve peace. It is not a decision directed against anyone,” Sanchez said.
He said that this decision was made for three reasons: peace, justice and coherence.
Sanchez also said that the Palestinian state must be viable with the West Bank and Gaza, and the corridor connected to East Jerusalem.
“Both territories would be united under the legitimate government of the Palestinian National Authority,” the Spanish Prime Minister pointed out, AA writes.
