Tsunami Waves reach California Coast

Tsunami waves from a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka have reached the coast of California, the US National Weather Service said.

The post on X said residents were advised to stay away from beaches.

“The first tsunami waves are starting to hit the coast, with clear waves being recorded at tide gauges in Crescent City and Humboldt Bay. The waves will continue to grow overnight and will become even more dangerous due to the high tide. Stay away from beaches!” the post said.

At least 30 additional earthquakes were recorded after the 8.8-magnitude earthquake on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the regional department of the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.

The statement said that the aftershocks were between two and five magnitudes on the Richter scale.

A TASS reporter reports that the ground in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is still shaking.

According to some reports, the primary earthquake had a magnitude of 8.7.

Tsunami waves were reported in Kamchatka and Hawaii.

The port of Severo Kurilsk in Sakhalin Oblast was flooded by large waves.

Authorities have issued evacuation orders in Kamchatka, Hawaii and the Pacific coast of Japan.
