12992212_1150144431703178_708093439_nBrčko has a valuable archaeological collection Neolith consisted of around a thousand artefacts that date back from the prehistoric era and from recent past.

Not to be mistaken, it is not a collection that enjoys institutional care – it is a private collection.

Milorad Ćirković is a lover of the past and one of the most frequently seen people of Brčko. This graphic designer, journalist, professor, independent businessman, amateur archaeologist and collector is proud of his collection which he inherited from his ancestors, and then built on for years. Numerous regional experts assessed his collection as worth of millions.

National Monument Commission determined that this collection has a potential to be declared a significant heritage. In this regard, they requested from the government of the Brčko District to provide adequate place for it.

However, due to neglect by authorities and the lack of permanent “accommodation”, this collection might soon end up literally on a meadow. Milorad Ćorković no longer has funds to pay the rent for leased space where the collection was placed.

“We began with classification, but the authorities remained oblivious of our lobbying. We are now in a situation where we have to move out because the rent is high, around 550 BAM every month. If we only had a false promise, maybe we could endure. But we do not have that either. There is simply no political consensus,” Ćirković said.

This collection has been created for generations, starting from Milorad’s grandfather Živan, then his father Pero, and now Milorad, who found a Neolith axe as a boy.
