Program of 20th Sarajevo Film Festival Announced

sff (2)This year’s 20th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF), which will be held from August 15th until 23rd , will show 247 films from 60 countries and visitors will be able to watch them within 19 festival programs.

 

Director of SFF Mirsad Purivatra said that they will show the greatest number of films than in previous years and films come from the greatest number of different countries.

 

“That is proof that SFF becomes better year by year not only by number of films which are shown but also by quality. This year’s SFF is a milestone since it’s the 20th anniversary and it will open ‘new pages’ for the festival and will bring new projects,” Purivatra said.

 

Purivatra announced today that this year’s SFF will be visited by a great number of guests from the region and the world who received many prestigious awards. The opening of the Festival will be welcomed by Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal before the screening of his movie “Amores Perros” of the Mexican director Alejandra Gonzáleza Iñárritua.

 

Cristi Puiu, Vladimir Perišić, Aida Begić, Marc Recha, Angela Shanelec, Isild Le Besco will present their movies during the same night. Their movies where done within the omnibus “Bridges of Sarajevo”.

 

Director of the Festival announced that from the second day, international guests, among who are Oscar-winning persons, winners of prestigious awards in world film festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice, will visit Festival as well.

 

Director Michel Hazanavicius, who won the Oscar for “The Artist” came to Sarajevo with his new movie from this year’s official selection at the Cannes Film Festival “Search”.

 

BiH Director Danis Tanović, who won the Oscar for the movie “No Man’s Land”, is this year’s winner of the Honorary heart of Sarajevo and Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo will meet participants of this years’ Talents Sarajevo and audience after screening the movie “The Boxer” for which she received the Oscar.

 

BiH Director Jasmila Žbanić, winner of the Golden Bear for the movie “Grbavica” will present her film for the first time in the official program of SFF. Her new film is called “The Island of Love” and besides the Director of the film, Žbanić will be accompanied by actors Ermin Bravo, Leon Lučev and Ada Condeescu.

 

Purivatra especially emphasized that this year’s SFF will be visited by Yi’nan Diao from China who won the Golden Bear at this years’ Berlinale. He travelled to Sarajevo with the main actor Lun Mei Gwei to present the Sarajevo audience his film “Black Coal, Thin Ice”.

 

Among many other guests who will present their work at the SFF, is also actor Simon McBurney who played in Woody Allen’s “Magic in the Moonlight” and awarded director Pawel Pawlikowski who comes to SFF with his new film “Ida”.

Sarajevo Film Festival will pay tribute to one of the best and most productive regional music composers Arsen Dedić after the screening of the documentary film “My Craft”.

Dedić composed music for more than 100 shows, short movies, documentaries and motion pictures.
