Public discussions on the Draft of Law on the Control and Restricted Use of Tobacco are almost done. After that, the Government will give a final proposal of the law and refer it to the parliamentary procedure. How will the law ultimately look and in what form it will be adopted – remains unknown.
There are assurances from the EU and the World Bank that there will be no economic consequences for caterers. On the other hand, caterers are stating that the amount of work will definitely decrease.
Nezir Malkic is the owner of a catering facility. He said that there will be consequences if the Law gets adopted because citizens of BiH have the habit of consuming cigarettes with coffee and drinks. However, he is aware that we have to adopt the new law if we want to enter the EU.
“The best example is Croatia, where we had witnessed that the law was accepted and then retrieved, so it will have some consequences. Whether we like it or not, the law will be adopted. It would be a good thing if it is applied equally to all citizens. We have already prepared ourselves, we have the location – a garden that is prepared for the smokers and the inside space which is for the non-smokers,” said Malkic.
