The Project “Conceptual Design of Reconstruction and Expansion of Grbavica Stadium” was presented today at the International Center for Children and Youth in Novo Sarajevo.

The Mayor of Novo Sarajevo municipality Nedžad Koldžo and the Manager of the Soccer Club Željezničar Amar Osim designed the project, and it received support from member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić. It was also well received by other institutions of Canton Sarajevo and FBiH.

“The objective of the idea is for Sarajevo and BiH to get a representative sports facility that fulfills the standards of FIFA and UEFA. According to the preliminary design, the stadium will meet the highest UEFA criteria. The club FK Željezničar and BiH national team will play at this stadium’’, said Koldžo at the presentation and added that the realization of the project would bring financial strength and beautify Sarajevo.

Koldžo said that in the implementation of the project, all levels of government have to participate. The estimated reconstruction of the stadium, which also includes the construction of auxiliary facilities, shopping mall and underground parking, would cost around 15 million euros.

The stadium would have a capacity of 20.312, comprising all the capacities required by UEFA and FIFA, 17 entrances would decrease the crowds, and tickets would be controlled by a modern electronic system.

Koldžo added that the realization of the project would be financed by credit funds, and all levels of government would take the responsibility to repay part of the loan. The stadium would probably be built in several stages.
