The Government of Sarajevo Canton made a decision on the adoption of the capital project “Sarajevo Toplane-Daljinsko grijanja”, worth 50,000,000 euros.

This project includes two components that can be implemented in stages or simultaneously. The first phase includes the installation of an 18MW heat pump in Butile and accompanying preparatory activities, the construction of a pipeline of about 6.5 km from Butile to the boiler house on Alipašino polje and a two-km pipeline from boiler house K5 to the boiler house on Alipašino polje, as well as the installation of components for improvement efficiency of the existing heating system in Alipašina polje.

In the second phase, the installation of a second heat pump with a power of 18 MW in Butile is planned, the construction of a 6.5 km long pipeline from the boiler house on Alipašina polje to the boiler houses on Otoka, Čengić Villa 2, in Hrasno and Grbavica, improvement of the heat substations that are the subject of both phases of the project and the installation of economizers on boilers in boiler rooms that would remain in operation for the needs of maximum system load (at the time of the lowest temperatures).

An integral part of the project is the structure of the sources of financing, in which the total costs per phase of the project’s implementation are listed, which were submitted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Representatives of the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, after the meetings held with the representatives of the EBRD, agreed on further activities for the implementation of this project.

“As part of the project, the Bank would work on mobilizing grants for the preparation of a feasibility study that would assess the possibilities for sludge treatment in the Butila wastewater treatment plant. At the beginning of this procedure, the possibility opens for the EBRD to provide funds for the preparation of project documentation for the complete project of introducing heat pumps into the district heating system in Canton Sarajevo,” explained the Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of CS Almir Bečarević.

As he added, funds for the Sarajevo Canton’s own participation related to the payment of VAT and other costs on the project will be provided in the budget of the CS. The borrowing procedure will be carried out in accordance with the Sarajevo Canton’s borrowing procedures on the basis of internal and external debt and the issuance of guarantees, it was announced by the CS Protocol and Press Service.
