The Project Radiceva Street as a Pedestrian and Artistic Zone?

Radiceva StreetStreet Art Festival (FUU) is an event that will be held in Sarajevo from the 22nd to 24th of July 2016 for the second consecutive year. Last year, the festival was held in four Sarajevo municipalities, and this year it will be held in the Municipality Centar where the focus will be on Radiceva Street as a street of particular importance.

Central topic of this year’s festival, which takes place in the Municipality Centar, is “Radiceva Street as a potential artistic center of Sarajevo”. On this occasion, guests presented the idea of converting Radiceva Street into a small neighborhood of culture, a meeting point for intellectuals and artists as well as workers in the field of culture.

“According to the preliminary design, which was done and gifted to the city of Sarajevo and the Municipality of Centar by our famous architect Amir Vuk Zec, Radiceva Street would become a small city without traffic and it would represent a unit that would be connected with a pedestrian bridge Festina Lente and Obala Maka Dizdara, a place where people could enjoy the city life and that would be interesting for tourists as well. It is planned for Radiceva Street to be a pedestrian zone and gathering place for intellectuals, artists and professionals from the culture at least by one part,” explained Ales Kurt, director of the Street Art Festival.

” I also received a similar proposal at the Assembly of the citizens in the local community „Liberation Square-Centar”. The idea to permanently or temporarily close Radiceva Street to traffic is interesting, and thus it would receive the status of the promenade, which we need to address in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation of Canton Sarajevo. I personally think that the Municipality Centar can be considered as a serious partner in this particular project. We already have to, as a responsible local community, start thinking on how to relieve some of the streets from traffic, as it is done in the centers of other European cities. Radiceva Street can be a pilot project, with which we will connect this street as a whole over the bridge Festina Lente to Obala Mak Dizdar and the Academy of Fine Arts,” said the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Dr. Nedzad Ajnadzic.

Chairman Ajnadzic expressed his satisfaction with the conversations on this issue and emphasized that there is a willingness to support the initiative in the Municipality Centar.
