The Sarajevo Canton Government intended to allocate 16 million BAM for the construction of new vertical transportation on Bjelašnica. The current three-seated lift would be replaced with a six-seated one, thus significantly increasing capacity and speed of transportation of tourists, as foreseen by the long-term Ski Center Bjelašnica development strategy.
These funds are earmarked exclusively for the cosntruction of new vertical transportation and placement of a six-seated cable car to the intermediate station and a new four-seated cable car from the intermediate station to the top of Bjelašnica. Beginning of works is planned for the beginning of the construction season. International tender and selection of contractor would be completed by then.
“Construction would be performed according to the latest technical-technological solutions that offer maximum safety to the users, meeting all European ecological standards with the aesthetic incorporation into the environment. The condition is to complete all works by the end of this year, so that the coming winter season is not jeopardized. In this way, we would improve the offer, and the EYOF 2019 is approaching as well,” said Midhat Hubijar, director of CPE ZOI ’84.
Within this project, Hubijar stated, the project of artificial snowing of the central part of the track in Babin do is also included.
“We will have to get new cannons for artificial snowing of the central track. that is the track used for downhill during the Winter Olympics in 1984. Moreover, in near future we intend to dislocate the existing three-seated lift to the locality of BX on Bjelašnica, which would significantly increase the speed and capacity of transportation of skiers. Also planned is the recovery of the catering facility on top of Bjelašnica and negotiations for provision of funds are currently in progress,” Hubijar pointed out.
